SC36/WG7

Culture, Language, and Human Functioning Activities

The scope of this Work Group is IT-related standardization for ensuring that various features of hardware, software, systems, content, applications, etc. will be adaptable to the user's requirements within the scope of SC36

There are nine ongoing SC36/WG7 projects approved by SC36:

  • Individualized Adaptability and Accessibility in E-learning, Education and Training:
    • Part 1: Framework (project 24751-1)
      • provide a common framework to facilitate matching of learner accessibility needs and preferences with appropriate learning resources and user interfaces
    • Part 2: Access For All Personal Needs and Preferences Statement (project 24751-2)
      • provide a common information model for stating the learner or user needs and preferences when accessing resources or services delivered digitally, and
    • Part 3: Access For All Digital Resource Description (project 24751-3)
      • provide a common language for description of digital learning resources to facilitate matching of those resources to learners’ accessibility needs and preferences
    • Part 4: Non-digital resource description (project 24751-4)
    • Part 5: Personal needs and preferences for non-digital resources (project 24751-5)
      • 4-5 provide an accepted means to describe elements drawn from resources and services relevant to adaptability/accessibility that can be online or offline or human-provided. The standard will provide vocabulary elements and vocabularies and a model to aggregate those for description of alternatives for the purpose of delivering accessible e-Learning.
    • Part 6: Personal needs and preferences for events and places (project 24751-6)
    • Part 7: Description of events and places (project 24751-7)
      • 6-7 provide a model and a common language for stating the learner or user needs and preferences with respect to accessing places and events. It will enable users to easily establish user needs and preference profiles and use them many times, and it will enable resource, event and place accessibility profiles to be merged interoperably and searched electronically.
    • Part 8: Language accessibility and Human Interface Equivalencies (HIEs) in e-Learning applications (project 24751-8) (based on 36N134)
      • provide a common methodology and (default) conventions for supporting cultural and linguistic adaptability.

There is also a new work item being developed by the USNB titled “Definition of Concepts for User Actions for Use in Learning, Education, and Training Environments”. (formerly Touch User Interfaces).
